Dave Bland has an excellent article about the Buzz Feiten tuning system that I just read and very much enjoyed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() When I consider all the trouble that we as builders go to to perhaps get 5% better tone from a guitar I see how the BFTS is a must for any serious luthier. Many thanks Dave for a fascinating and very well written article!!
Hesh, Thanks for the kind words. Some people don't like the system or Buzz himself. That's o.k...I like them both. When you see people like Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Satriani and Vai saying it works you know it's doing something. In fact, even Dan Erlewine is a certified BFTS retro-fitter. If it's good enough for Dan...well enough said. Thanks Again. |

Judy gave an excellent presentation at the last ASIA conference. If it was the only thing that I had seen at ASIA it would have been worth the trip. Some interresting notes: She almost never does engraving. She spends a great deal of time with her materials looking for natural patterns that give her the looks she needs. Note in the lion that the mane is carefully layed out to look like hair. Her stash of pearl and veneers must be huge! Her approach seems to be to search until you find something that looks like a lion's mane. Of course, recognizing that a small section of some veneer looks like a lion's mane is no easy task. |

I think Judy is an artist who also happens to build guitars to display her art. Don't get me wrong, her guitars are world-class, but her inlay artwork is what really makes her stand out in the crowd. It's unique. I never look at her stuff and get bored like with some other inlay folks. It takes an incredible imagination and eye to be able to "see" the design inherent in a piece of wood or other material. That's artistry and creativity well beyond anything I consider myself capable of. She's incredibly intelligent and has an amazing sense of humor too. If y'all get a chance to go to the Newport Guitar Festival this year, take a few minutes to meet her and talk with her. Very cool person. |

We spoke at the last ASIA. She is a really nice person and yes very intelligent. I believe she has her Ph.D, but chaged into luthiery later in her career. Craig Lavin |
